About Steps Support

Steps Support provides care and support to people in their own homes across Newcastle Upon Tyne and Gateshead. We believe most people would rather stay where they are, surrounded by their own things and their own routines, and our job is to make that possible for as long as it sensibly can be. We support older people, including many living with dementia, and we work with adults of all ages who have a learning disability or autism, a mental health condition, a physical disability, or a visual or hearing impairment. We also support younger adults who want to build independence rather than have things done for them. The support we offer ranges from a short daily call to help with washing, dressing, medication and meals, through to longer visits covering household tasks, appointments, shopping and company. Everything starts with a conversation. We ask what someone already manages well, where the difficulty actually lies and how they would like the visit to go, then we build the plan from that rather than from a standard list. Where we can, we keep the same small team going to the same person, because familiarity matters more than almost anything else in home care. We keep in close contact with families, and with district nurses, social workers and GPs, so that concerns are raised early. Needs change, and the plan should change with them. If you are looking into support for yourself or for someone close to you, please get in touch and we will talk it through honestly.
