About Us
We are APC Care, a home care agency based in Hailsham in East Sussex. We support older people and younger adults in their own homes, including people living with dementia.
Home care succeeds or fails on details that look minor from the outside. Whether the carer arrives when they said they would. Whether it is the same carer. Whether they know that the kettle is awkward, that the cat needs letting out, that a particular subject is best left alone this week. We spend our effort on getting those right, because the technical parts of care are the easier half of the job.
With dementia, continuity is not a nicety. A familiar person at the door is the difference between a visit that works and one that ends with everyone upset. We arrange our rotas around that as far as we possibly can, and we accept the extra work it makes for us.
We also try to be honest with families from the start about what a package of visits can and cannot achieve. That conversation is sometimes uncomfortable and it saves a great deal of difficulty later. Support is reviewed as needs change, which they do.

Safe
Inspectors found that staff knew how to report concerns of abuse to the right professionals. People were given medicines safely, and risks to people were assessed with action taken to reduce them. There were enough staff, and infection control measures such as gloves and aprons were used.
Effective
Inspectors found that care staff received training and support from the management team. Consent was sought from people before services were provided. The provider worked with healthcare professionals when needed.
Caring
Inspectors found that staff maintained people's privacy and dignity. People were involved in planning their care, and independence was promoted where possible.
Responsive
Inspectors found that the views of people and care staff were sought. People were confident to use the complaints process if they needed to. Complaints were investigated and responded to appropriately.
Well-led
CQC rated this area Requires improvement because of a past and current lack of continuity in the management of the service. This meant some people had an inconsistent service. There was no registered manager at the time, but a new manager had joined and applied to register. Inspectors found no breaches of regulations, and improvements had been made to quality and safety after the former franchise contract ended.

Rated Good in November 2018, the same overall rating as before (Good).
