About Ocean Healthcare

Ocean Healthcare supports people in their own homes in Newton Abbot and the surrounding part of Devon. We work with older people and with younger adults, and our experience covers dementia, learning disabilities and autism, mental health needs, physical disabilities, and sight and hearing loss. We assess at home, with whoever the person wants present, and the conversation is as much about what somebody intends to keep doing for themselves as about what they need from us. The plan is agreed rather than issued and it changes when circumstances do. Support may be a single short call each day, visits at several points for personal care, medication, meals and company, or longer stretches for somebody who should not be alone. In a rural area the things that make care at home work are unglamorous. Rounds have to be planned so carers are not racing between villages. Visits have to be long enough to be worth having. The same faces need to come back, because having to explain your own household to a stranger every week wears somebody down. Across the range of needs we meet, training is practical rather than nominal, and our carers have the knowledge for the people they visit before they go out. Our most recent inspection by the Care Quality Commission rated us good overall.
