We work with older people, younger adults, people living with dementia, people managing mental health conditions, people with physical disabilities and people with sight or hearing loss. Most people come to us because something at home has become harder than it was, and they want help that makes staying there possible rather than a move nobody has chosen. We try to provide exactly that and no more, because taking over more than somebody needs does them no favours. Everything starts with a visit and an unhurried conversation. What does the day look like now, what has become difficult, and what would the person rather keep doing for themselves. From that we agree who comes, when and what they do, with family or an advocate involved whenever the person wants them there. Visits cover personal care, help with medication, meals and drinks, housework and laundry, shopping, getting to appointments, and company for people whose days have grown very quiet. For those living with dementia we keep the same small team visiting and work at their pace rather than the clock's. We are stubborn about consistency and about timekeeping, because between them they account for most of what makes home care work. If something is going wrong we would far rather be told early.
