We are First Choice Medical Solutions, a home care agency based in Derby and supporting adults across the city and the surrounding area in their own homes. The people who come to us have very different needs. That breadth means we cannot work to a single template, so we do not try to. Each package of support starts with a conversation about what the person wants their week to look like and what is getting in the way of it. Some of that support is practical: personal care, help with medication, meals, shopping and appointments. Some of it is about confidence and routine, particularly for younger adults who are working towards living more independently. We are careful not to take over tasks that someone can manage alone, because independence lost is hard to win back. We recruit slowly and train properly, especially for the more specialist parts of our work, and we would rather tell a family we are not the right agency than send someone who has not been prepared for the situation they are walking into.
