About Vision Beyond Autism

Vision Beyond Autism supports autistic adults and adults with learning disabilities in their own homes in Wilmslow and the surrounding area. Working well with autistic people depends on a few things we take seriously. Predictability, because unpredictability is often the hardest part of a day. Clear and literal communication, rather than hints and social shorthand. Respect for sensory needs, so that noise, light, touch and smell are thought about rather than dismissed. And a willingness to accept that a person's own way of doing something is valid even when it is not the way most people would choose. In practice our support covers cooking, shopping, money and bills, appointments, travel, work or college, keeping in touch with people, and personal care and medication where that is needed. How much we do and how much we deliberately stand back is agreed with the person and revisited as they move forward. We keep support teams small and introduce new staff properly rather than sending strangers at short notice. Where somebody communicates without speech, learning how comes before everything else, and we record what we learn so the whole team responds in the same way. Our most recent inspection by the Care Quality Commission rated us good overall, and we are glad to talk through a particular situation.
