About Us

Premier Care Support is a home care agency in Amersham, supporting people in their own homes across Buckinghamshire. We work with older people and younger adults, with people living with dementia, with people who have a learning disability, with autistic people and with people who have a physical disability.

Working across that range keeps us honest. An older person recovering from a fall and a young autistic adult trying to keep a job going need very different things, and the only way to get either right is to ask rather than assume. So we assess properly, we are candid about what we do well, and we match carers to people deliberately rather than by whoever is free.

The practical work covers personal care, medication managed and recorded properly, meals cooked, help about the house, support to move safely indoors, and help to get out and stay connected. For people living with dementia we keep the same small group of carers going to the same homes, because familiarity is what keeps a visit calm.

Communication matters more than anything else we do. Some of the people we support do not use speech, and nearly every serious problem we are called in to fix began with somebody not being listened to properly.

The Care Quality Commission has not yet given us an overall rating. We are happy to explain how we recruit, train and supervise, and to introduce you to the team.

More about the care at Premier Care Support Limited

What each type of care involves, and the questions worth asking when you call or visit.

Older Person Care

Medication managed and recorded properly is on this agency's own list of what it does, along with meals cooked, help about the house and support to move safely indoors. For most older people in Amersham that is what keeps the house liveable: a hand at the beginning and end of the day, tablets taken at the right hour, and someone through the door who knows how things are done here. Premier Care Support says it assesses properly and matches carers deliberately rather than by whoever is free. Ask how many different carers would come in a fortnight and how long each call lasts. Ask what the agency can and cannot cover late in the evening, since nights are a separate arrangement.

Dementia

Keeping the same small group of carers going to the same homes is this agency's stated approach to dementia, on the grounds that familiarity is what keeps a visit calm. That is the right instinct, because a stranger at the door turns a half hour of help into a half hour of reassurance. The rest of good dementia support is workers who spot distress early, who do not correct a mistaken belief for the sake of it, and who can come back later rather than insist. Ask what dementia training the carers have actually completed. Ask how the agency handles refusal at the door, and how the plan is revised as the condition moves on.

Learning Disability / Autism

Some of the people supported here do not use speech, the agency says, and it treats communication as the thing that matters more than anything else it does. Support that works is built around the person: independence practised rather than removed, routines kept predictable, and sensory needs respected. Buckinghamshire would assess and may fund the package, with reviews run by the council thereafter.

Physical Disability

At £29 to £35 an hour across the South East, a package of several visits a day mounts up quickly, so the detail of each call matters. The work itself is transfers, personal care, help to move safely indoors and support to get out and stay connected. Ask whether carers are trained on the equipment already in the house and who arranges an occupational therapy review.

Younger Adults

A young autistic adult trying to keep a job going needs something different from an older person after a fall, and this agency makes that point itself. For adults under sixty five the test of home care is whether it bends around work, study and a social life rather than dictating the day. Ask whether call times can shift with a timetable and whether a small team is realistic.
