About South Reablement Service

We provide reablement support to people in their own homes across south Bristol. Our work is with older people and people living with dementia, with people who have physical disabilities or a visual or hearing impairment, and with younger adults. Reablement is short term support with a clear purpose, which is to help somebody get back to doing things for themselves after illness, a fall or a spell in hospital. That makes it different from ordinary home care. We are not there to do things for people but to work alongside them while they regain the confidence and the practical ability to manage. Washing and dressing, getting up and down stairs, preparing a meal, getting out of the house again. Progress can be slow and it is rarely a straight line, so we go at the person's pace and we notice and say when something has improved. We plan the work with the person and with the therapists and community teams involved, set out what we are aiming for and review it regularly. At the end we are honest about what somebody can manage alone and what ongoing support, if any, they still need. At our most recent inspection the Care Quality Commission rated us good overall.
