About East Intermediate Care Centre

East Bristol Intermediate Care Centre provides care to people in their own homes across the east of the city, and much of our work is the kind that comes after a hospital stay. That shapes everything about how we operate. A great many of the people we see are at a turning point. They have had a fall or an operation, they have lost confidence as much as ability, and the next few weeks will decide whether they get back to managing or slide into needing care permanently. So our aim is usually to do less over time rather than more. We help with what is needed now and we deliberately hand things back as soon as somebody can take them on again. We support older adults, including people living with dementia, people with a physical disability, people who are blind, partially sighted, deaf or hard of hearing, and younger adults. In practice that means help with washing and dressing, medicines, meals, moving about safely, and building back up to the stairs, the kettle and the front door. It also means saying honestly when somebody is not going to get back to where they were, because a false expectation is its own kind of cruelty. Our overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Ring us and we will come out and talk it through.
