Independence is easily eroded by well meaning help, and we try hard not to be the cause of that. For people living with dementia we keep our visits consistent, with the same carers wherever possible, because familiarity does more than any technique we could apply. For someone with a physical disability, we take care over how support with moving, washing and dressing is given, since the manner of it matters as much as the outcome. We involve families where the person wants us to, and we work alongside general practitioners and community nurses rather than in parallel with them. We have not yet been given an overall rating by the Care Quality Commission. We are happy to be asked about how we work and to put people in touch with those we already support.
