We are Caremark Barking and Dagenham, supporting people in their own homes across the borough. We work with people living with dementia, adults with a learning disability and autistic adults, people managing a mental health condition or an eating disorder, people with a physical disability, and people with a visual or hearing impairment. With a spread like that we do not offer a standard package. We visit first, talk properly with the person and with family where that is wanted, and agree what the support should genuinely cover. For some it is a short call each morning. For others it is several visits a day covering personal care, medication, meals and the running of a household, or support that is far more about routine, encouragement and somebody turning up reliably than about practical tasks. This is a mixed and busy part of London and the households we visit reflect that, so we take time to understand how a particular family does things and how they would like us to fit around them. Where somebody's needs call for specialist understanding, we prepare the carers going in rather than leaving them to work it out, and we keep the same carers with the same households wherever the rota allows.
