Corrections and how we write the news
Local care news on CareAssura reports changes to care homes in England in plain English, so families and professionals can see what has happened near them. It is written by the CareAssura team.
Where the facts come from
Every report is based on an official public record: the register of care services kept by the Care Quality Commission (CQC), and where relevant Companies House and the local council. Each article links to the record it relies on, under Sources.
Contains public sector information licensed under the Open Government Licence v3.0.
What we report
- New registrations of care homes and nursing homes.
- Deregistrations, where a service is no longer on the CQC register.
- Changes to a CQC overall rating, where the new or previous rating is Outstanding, Requires improvement or Inadequate.
- Changes of registered provider.
How we word it
We state what the record shows and nothing more. We name the provider exactly as it is registered. We do not guess at causes, we do not apportion blame, and we do not describe a deregistration as a closure unless the record or the provider says so, because a deregistration can also follow a move to a new provider or a merger. A rating is a snapshot of one inspection and we say so.
How we check
Every article is checked against the record and read by a member of the team before it is published. Articles are published a few at a time through the day, not in bulk.
Asking for a correction or a right of reply
If you are a provider, a resident, a relative or a member of staff and you think something is wrong or out of date, email hello@careassura.com with the link to the article and what you would like changed. We will look at it promptly. Where we have made an error we correct it and note the change on the page. Where a provider wishes to respond, we will consider adding a short statement.
