About Harlington House
Harlington House is a residential care home in York supporting older people, adults with a learning disability or autism and people living with mental health needs, including younger adults. We also offer respite stays. A home with that range of residents only works if the planning is done person by person, which is how we do it. We want to know how someone's day should run, what they manage themselves, what they want help with and what they would rather we did not interfere with at all. For residents with a learning disability or autism we start with communication and with predictability. We learn how each person tells us what they need, we keep routines steady, and we give proper warning before anything changes. For those living with mental health needs we pay attention to early signs that things are shifting and we work alongside community teams rather than separately from them. For older residents the emphasis is on keeping the familiar shape of a life going. Everybody here has their own room and their own belongings, and a genuine say in how the house is run. Respite guests are treated as part of the household while they are with us. If you would like to see the home, please get in touch and arrange a visit at a time that works for you. We are happy for people to come more than once.
