About Us

Hillgrove Residential Home is in Prenton on the Wirral, and we provide residential care for people living with dementia. Respite stays are available as well.

Because dementia care is what we do rather than one of several things we do, the whole house is arranged around it. The daily rhythm stays consistent. The surroundings stay familiar. Staff are kept as steady as we can manage, because a recognised face does more good than any technique. We give people time to find their words rather than finishing their sentences for them, and we treat distress as something to understand rather than something to stop.

A good deal of that depends on knowing the person. We ask families about working lives, habits, music, food and what somebody was always like, because that knowledge is what makes sense of a mood or a repeated question. Relatives know things no assessment will ever capture, and we would rather ask than guess.

We should be open about our position. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is requires improvement. We have worked through the findings with our team and those areas are where our effort is concentrated at present. We would rather tell you ourselves and then let you come and judge for yourself.

Anyone considering Hillgrove is welcome to visit on an ordinary day and ask us about it directly.
