About Clara Court
Clara Court is a residential care home in Maidenhead. Those living here include older people, many living with dementia, adults with learning disabilities and autistic adults, people managing mental health conditions and people with physical disabilities. Respite stays are part of what we do. A household this mixed means one routine will not fit everybody, so we work out individually what a good day looks like for each person. For some that is company and something going on, and for others it is being left largely alone, which we treat as an equally reasonable preference. For residents living with dementia we keep the routine steady and ask relatives early for the history that makes a person's remarks comprehensible rather than confusing. Where somebody can do a thing themselves we support them to keep at it even when stepping in would be quicker. On a busy morning that takes discipline, and it is the difference between supporting a person and gradually deskilling them. Our overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is outstanding. We are proud of it and slightly wary of what it can imply, since a rating covers a period rather than a promise. What keeps it true is asking people here what to change, and then changing it.
