About Us
Christian Head is a residential care home in Kirkby Stephen. We provide care for older people and younger adults, including people living with dementia, people with physical disabilities and people with sight or hearing loss, and we offer respite stays.
We are a small home in a rural place, and that shapes what we are good at. Everybody knows everybody. Staff know who is up early, who wants a late breakfast, who likes company and who would sooner be left with the radio. It is also a place where most residents have local roots going back a long way, and we put effort into keeping those connections alive rather than letting the home become an island.
When somebody moves in we take time over their history and preferences and we write it down so that every member of staff knows it. Dementia support rests on familiarity and pace, so we keep staffing as consistent as we can and we work out what settles a particular resident.
Where sight or hearing is failing we pay attention to lighting, contrast, signage and sound. For residents with physical disabilities we look at equipment and at how the building is arranged so that independence is protected where it can be.
Meals are cooked here and residents have a say in the menu. Visitors are welcome through the day.
Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Please come and see the home for yourself.
