About Us
Stonecross is a care home in Kendal for older people, including those living with dementia.
We provide residential care, help with the things that have become difficult, and company for people who had begun to find home a lonely place. Support with washing, dressing, medication and mobility is given discreetly by staff who know how each person likes things done, and we write that down so it does not depend on who is on shift.
For people living with dementia we keep the day familiar and unhurried. We ask families to tell us about the life behind the person, the work they did and what calms them when they are anxious, and we use it in conversation rather than storing it in a folder. Meals are cooked on the premises and mealtimes stay sociable and relaxed.
Many of the people who live here have spent their lives in this part of Cumbria, and we keep those connections going wherever we can, from family visits to routines that still matter to somebody. Relatives are part of the household as far as we are concerned, and visiting is not rationed.
Short respite stays are available, often for people recovering after a spell in hospital or to give a carer at home a rest. Our most recent rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Please ring to arrange a visit.
