About Us

Ferndale Residential Care Home is in Emsworth, and we provide residential care for older people and younger adults, including people living with dementia. We also take planned respite stays.

We are a home, not an institution, and we behave like one. People here have their own rooms and their own habits, they decide when to get up and what to do with the day, and visitors are welcome without arrangement. Our staff help with personal care, medicines, meals and the practical business of the household, and they try to do it in a way that leaves people in charge of their own lives.

For residents living with dementia, familiarity does most of the work. The same faces on shift, a day that follows a recognisable shape, time to do things at the pace somebody can manage, and staff who know that a calm unhurried approach prevents far more distress than it costs. We work with what a person can still do rather than treating the diagnosis as the whole story.

Respite stays are genuinely useful. They give family carers a proper rest, and they let somebody see what we are like before making any bigger decision.

Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. We ask residents and relatives how we are doing and we take the uncomfortable answers seriously, because those are the ones that tell us something.
