About Us
Slade House is a residential care home in Reading, West Berkshire, supporting adults with a learning disability or autism. We support both younger adults and older people, and we offer respite stays for those who need support for a shorter period or whose usual carer needs a break.
The people who live here are adults with their own preferences, opinions and plans, and our job is to support those rather than to manage them. Residents decide how their days go, what they eat, how their rooms look and what they want to work towards. Some are building skills around cooking, budgeting, travel or employment. Others want support to keep doing the things they already enjoy and to stay close to family and friends.
Support plans are written with each person, using whatever way of communicating works for them. We pay careful attention to what helps someone feel settled and what causes them stress, and we shape routines and surroundings around that instead of expecting people to adapt to us. As residents get older their needs change, and we plan for that openly with them and the people who matter to them.
We work alongside community learning disability teams, therapists and local health services, and families and advocates are genuinely welcome here.
The Care Quality Commission most recently rated us good overall. Please get in touch if you would like to come and look round.
