About Us
We are Barnfield in Gaydon, Warwickshire, a residential care home run as part of People in Action. We support older people and younger adults, including those living with dementia, adults with learning disabilities and autistic adults, people managing a mental health condition, people with a physical disability and people with a visual or hearing impairment, and we offer respite stays.
With that mix of needs in one home, support has to be planned person by person rather than run to a single routine. We spend real time at the start learning how somebody communicates, what they manage on their own, where they want help and what they would rather nobody did for them.
Communication is where a lot of the work sits. We find out how a person makes themselves understood, use that method consistently, and check we have actually been understood rather than assuming it. Predictability does much of the rest, along with familiar staff and routines we protect rather than ask people to be flexible about.
Choice runs through the day as far as it can, with help offered rather than imposed.
Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good.
