About Malling Grange
Malling Grange is a residential care home in West Malling. We support older people and younger adults who need help with daily living, including residents who live with dementia. A home is made or spoilt by the ordinary parts of the day, so that is where our attention goes. Whether someone is woken when they would choose. Whether they have their own belongings and their own chair. Whether the meals are worth sitting down to. Whether they can get outside when the weather allows. Whether a visitor is welcomed at the hour that suits the visitor. We plan care with each resident and with the people who know them best, and we are careful to distinguish between help that is wanted and help that quietly takes over. We ask rather than assume, and we come back to the question as circumstances change. For residents with dementia we keep faces and routines as consistent as we can, arrange the building so that getting around does not depend on memory, and look for the cause when somebody is distressed rather than simply trying to calm them. Relatives are often the ones who recognise that cause, so we keep them closely involved. We have not yet been given an overall rating by the Care Quality Commission. In the meantime, the best thing you can do is come and look at us on an ordinary day and speak to the people who live here.
