About Orchid
Orchid is a residential care home in South Ockendon supporting adults with learning disabilities and autistic adults, including younger adults moving on from the family home or from children's services. Respite stays are available. Our most recent inspection by the Care Quality Commission rated us good overall. This is people's home first, so the people living here set the shape of the week. Rooms are personal and arranged however each person wants them. Cooking, the weekly shop and looking after the house are ordinary shared jobs rather than activities invented to fill a timetable. Some of the people here have work, college or volunteering they want to keep up, and some prefer familiar routines and quieter days. Both are perfectly reasonable ways to live. Where someone communicates using signs, symbols, technology or their own particular way of showing us what they need, we learn it and write it down clearly so that nobody has to guess. Where change is unsettling, we give plenty of notice and prepare properly. Where there is a risk, we think it through with the person rather than defaulting to a refusal. We work alongside families, social workers and health colleagues, and we are willing to be the awkward voice in a meeting when someone is not getting what they need. You are welcome to visit before making any decisions. Please get in touch and we will arrange a time.
