About Inverthorne
Inverthorne in Sunderland is a residential care home supporting adults with a learning disability and autistic adults. We keep the house small and domestic on purpose. People live here rather than being placed here, and that shows in the ordinary run of the day. Everybody has their own room and their own belongings, and the shape of the week is set by the people who live in it. Support is agreed with each person and with those who know them best. For some it means help with all of personal care, and for others it is prompting, encouragement and staff nearby while they manage things themselves. We take communication seriously, learning how each person makes themselves understood and what their behaviour is telling us, and we write down what we learn so that everybody supports the person in the same way. People are supported to get out into Sunderland, to keep up activities and interests, to attend appointments and to see family and friends. Respite stays can be arranged where appropriate. If you are looking for a placement for somebody, please contact us. We will assess carefully and tell you honestly if we are not the right service.
