About Springwood
Springwood is a residential care home in Stockton On Tees, supporting adults with learning disabilities and autistic adults. We also offer respite stays. We are a small household and that is the point of us. Everybody is properly known rather than known in outline, staff notice when somebody is off colour without needing it reported, and the house can run around the people in it instead of the reverse. People choose their own rooms, have a real hand in the shopping and the meals, and share in decisions about the place. Where somebody can do a thing themselves, our job is to make it possible rather than to do it faster on their behalf. What we are really supporting is a life with something in it: work, a course, a club, somewhere regular to go. Those are the purpose of the support rather than extras attached to it. We are careful with routine and generous with warning, because for several people here knowing what is happening and who is on shift is what makes a day manageable. Our overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. We keep asking the people who live here what they would change, and we tell them plainly when we cannot do something and why.
