About Us
Stowe Mount Care Home is a residential care home in Lichfield, supporting older people and younger adults from across Staffordshire, including people living with dementia and people who have a physical disability.
We think of ourselves as part of the city rather than a building set apart from it. People who move in have usually lived locally for years, and keeping those threads intact matters more than most brochures admit: the same newspaper, the same church, visitors who can walk round rather than make an expedition of it.
The daily work is practical. Personal care given calmly and in private. Medication managed properly. Meals cooked here and served at a table. Warm rooms that look like they belong to the person in them. Staff awake at night. Beyond that we try to leave as much as possible in people's own hands, because choosing when to get up, what to wear and how to spend an afternoon is no small matter when a great deal else has been taken away.
For residents with a physical disability, accessible bathrooms, the right equipment and staff who know each person's preferred way of being helped to move keep daily life from shrinking. With dementia we work on familiarity and calm rather than correction, and relatives usually hold the detail that unlocks a difficult hour.
The Care Quality Commission has not yet given us an overall rating. The most useful thing you can do is turn up, have a cup of tea and talk to the people who live here.

More about the care at Stowe Mount Care Home
What each type of care involves, and the questions worth asking when you call or visit.
Older Person Care
The Westgate Practice, a dentist and a supermarket pharmacy all lie 0.6 miles from Stowe Mount. Registered for older person care, the home says personal care is given calmly and in private, medication managed properly and meals cooked there and served at a table. Staff are described as awake at night, with warm rooms that look as though they belong to the person in them. Beyond that the home says it leaves as much as possible in people's own hands. Ask how many staff cover the night across 66 places and how a call bell is answered. Ask whether choosing when to get up and what to wear really does stay with the resident.
Dementia
Good Hope Hospital at Sutton Coldfield is 8.4 miles away in a straight line, a longer trip than the postcode suggests. Dementia care is on the registration, and the usual foundations are familiar staff, a calm layout and a day that keeps its shape. The home says it works on familiarity and calm, and that it thinks of itself as part of the city rather than a building set apart. Keeping local threads intact, the same newspaper or the same church, is given as part of that. Ask how distress is handled and whether any part of the building is secured. Ask how staffing continuity is maintained as dementia advances.
Physical Disability
Lichfield Trent Valley station is 0.5 miles from the home, close enough for visitors to arrive without an expedition. Physical disability is one of its registered categories, and the home names accessible bathrooms, the right equipment and staff who know each person's preferred way of being helped to move. Ask to see the bathroom and transfer equipment for the room on offer.
Younger Adults
The registration here was granted on 1 October 2026, the most recent in the area. Younger adults appear on it alongside older people, though in 66 places the balance will sit with the older group. Someone under 65 generally wants different hours, company and activity. Ask who of that age lives there and what fills their week.
Residential Care
Stowe Mount holds 66 places against a Lichfield average of 44, making it larger than 24 of the 35 homes nearby. Residential care provides everyday living support with no nurses on site, so meals, washing, dressing, medication and activity are care staff work. The GP and community nurses deal with anything clinical, which is where it parts from nursing care. West Midlands fees commonly sit between £850 and £1150 a week, and Staffordshire usually pays about £680 to £820. Only 19 of the 35 homes locally are rated Good or Outstanding, and this one has no rating yet, so look carefully. Ask what would happen if a resident's health outgrew residential care.
