About Us
We at Cheviot Court are proud to offer compassionate residential care in the heart of South Shields, providing a welcoming home for older people and adults with a wide range of support needs across South Tyneside and the wider North East.
Our home is thoughtfully situated within the South Shields community, offering residents the comfort of familiar surroundings whilst remaining well connected to local amenities, family and friends. The setting has been designed with comfort and accessibility in mind, creating spaces where residents can feel truly at ease, whether they wish to enjoy quiet reflection, share company with others or welcome loved ones for a visit. We believe that a calm, homely environment is the foundation of good care, and every corner of Cheviot Court reflects that ethos.
The breadth of care we provide means we are able to support a diverse community of residents. Alongside residential care for older people, we offer specialist dementia care delivered with patience, understanding and a focus on preserving dignity and identity. For adults living with a learning disability or autism, we tailor our approach to suit individual communication styles, routines and personal goals, helping each person to live as independently and confidently as possible. We also support younger adults and residents with mental health needs or physical disabilities, recognising that every person who joins us brings their own life story, preferences and aspirations. In practice, this means person centred care plans, sensitive daily routines and a team committed to understanding what matters most to each resident and their family.
We are pleased to share that the Care Quality Commission has rated Cheviot Court as Good overall, with ratings of Good across the Safe, Effective, Caring and Well led domains, and an Outstanding rating for being Responsive. That Outstanding recognition is something we hold particularly close, because it reflects the heart of what we strive to do every day: listening carefully, adapting thoughtfully and responding promptly to the changing needs of the people in our care. For families, this rating offers reassurance that the support their loved one receives is not only safe and effective but genuinely shaped around them as an individual.
Choosing a care home is one of the most important decisions a family can make, and we understand the questions, hopes and worries that come with it. We warmly invite families considering residential care in South Shields to get in touch with us at Cheviot Court. We would be delighted to talk through your loved one's needs, answer your questions and welcome you to see for yourself the supportive community we have built here.
