About 21 North View
North View in Jarrow is a small residential care home. We support adults with a learning disability and autistic adults, people with physical disabilities and people with a visual or hearing impairment, and we care for both older people and younger adults. We also offer respite stays. This is a house on an ordinary street and we run it as a home. There are few of us, which means the people supporting you know you properly rather than reading your details off a form. Everyone has their own room and their own things, and a say in how the house is run. Support is planned with each person, in a form they can use, covering how they like to be helped, what they enjoy, what they find hard and what they want their week to contain. People get out into Jarrow and along the Tyne, keep up activities and see their families, and we support that rather than reduce it to whatever is simplest. Where somebody has limited sight or hearing as well as a learning disability, communication is where we concentrate. We learn each person's own way of telling us things, whether that is speech, signing, objects or touch, and make sure the whole team can use it. The Care Quality Commission rated us good overall at our most recent inspection. Families, advocates and professionals are welcome to visit.
