About Us

Landona House is a residential care home in Shrewsbury in Shropshire. We provide a home for older people who need support with daily living, including people living with dementia, and we offer respite stays for those needing care for a short period or whose usual carer needs a break.

Moving into a care home is a considerable step, and the early weeks count for far more than any description of the building. We use them to learn about the person rather than to fit them into our routine. What they did for a living. What they will not be talked into eating. What time breakfast has always been. Whether they would sooner have company or the door shut and the radio on. Small facts, and between them they are most of what turns a room into somewhere that feels like home.

Dementia care rests on patience and a recognisable day. We avoid surprising people, we keep routines familiar, and when somebody is distressed we look for the cause instead of simply trying to settle them. Relatives often know exactly what helps, and we would much rather be told at the start.

The rest of the day belongs to the people living it, and we take the practical side seriously too: food worth eating, medication handled carefully, prompt attention when somebody is unwell.

At our most recent inspection the Care Quality Commission rated us good overall, and we keep asking what needs to change.
