About Us

Here at Parkbourn, we provide residential care for adults in the heart of Sefton, Liverpool. We support people with a wide range of needs, including learning disabilities, autism, mental health conditions, physical disabilities, and visual or hearing impairments. We also specialise in supporting younger adults, recognising that people in this age group often have very specific goals and aspirations that we want to help them work towards.

We are proud that our most recent Care Quality Commission inspection rated us as Good overall. That means a great deal to us, not as a tick box achievement, but because it reflects the day to day work our team puts in to make sure the people who live here feel safe, respected, and genuinely at home.

Our approach is straightforward. We take the time to get to know each person properly, understanding what matters to them, how they like their day to go, and what kind of support feels right for them. Care is not one size fits all, and we never treat it that way. Whether someone needs a little help here and there or more consistent hands on support, we try to build that around them as an individual rather than around a routine that suits us.

Parkbourn is a place where people live, not just a place where they receive care. We want the atmosphere to feel warm and familiar, somewhere residents feel comfortable having their own routines, their own relationships, and their own voice in how things are done.

If you are looking for a care home for yourself or for someone close to you, we would really encourage you to come and visit us. A conversation goes a long way, and we are always happy to answer questions openly and honestly so you can make the right decision with confidence.

More about the care at Parkbourn

What each type of care involves, and the questions worth asking when you call or visit.

Learning Disability / Autism

Support for adults with a learning disability or autism works best when it is built around the individual, with steady routines, clear communication and attention to sensory triggers. Parkbourn is registered for this type of care, and placements are usually arranged through a local authority assessment with regular reviews of the support plan. Ask how independence skills are encouraged, how sensory needs are recorded, and how the person's voice shapes their day.

Mental Health

Stability, predictable routines and being treated with dignity matter enormously for adults living with longer term mental health conditions. Parkbourn holds a registration to support people in this group, alongside its other categories of care. Worth asking about are staff experience with specific conditions, how medication and mood are monitored, and what happens if someone becomes unwell or reaches a point of crisis outside normal hours.

Physical Disability

Getting around safely at home shapes daily life for people with a physical disability, so accessibility, hoists, wet rooms and grab rails all come into the picture. Parkbourn is registered to support adults with physical disabilities as part of its residential service. Families should ask about step free access, room layouts, bathing arrangements and how the home balances hands on personal care with enabling people to do what they still can.

Visual / Hearing Impairment

Small practical details make sight and hearing loss much easier to manage, from good lighting and clear signage to hearing loops and staff who remember to face the person when speaking. Parkbourn is registered to support adults with visual or hearing impairment. Ask what adaptations are in place, how communication preferences are recorded, and whether staff have habits like announcing themselves on entering a room.

Younger Adults

Being under 65 in a care setting brings different expectations around lifestyle, social contact and future goals compared with older residents. Parkbourn in Liverpool is registered to support younger adults and highlights this group in its own description of the service. Families and social workers should ask how activities, peer contact and personal ambitions are built into the support plan, since this shapes quality of life day to day.

Respite Care

Short stays help carers take a planned break or give someone time to recover after a hospital admission, and they can also work as a trial run before considering a permanent move. Parkbourn is registered to offer respite alongside its longer term places. Ring ahead about availability, minimum stay length and what to pack, including medication lists, and check how the fee compares with the North West range of roughly £800 to £1050 a week.

Residential Care

Everyday living support is what residential care is built around, covering meals, help with washing and dressing, medication prompts, and companionship through the day. Parkbourn is registered for residential care in Liverpool, which means it offers this kind of social and personal support rather than the clinical input a nursing home provides. If someone develops needs that require a registered nurse on site, a move or additional community health input would usually be considered. Typical weekly fees across the North West sit between about £800 and £1050, while Sefton Council usually pays somewhere in the region of £650 to £800 for a funded placement. Families should ask how personal care is planned, what a normal day looks like, and how the home handles changes in need over time.

Questions families ask about Parkbourn

Answered from the CQC register where we can. 5 of these the home has not told us yet, so ask when you call.

Can Mum or Dad stay here if their dementia gets worse?

No. Parkbourn is not listed for dementia care on the CQC register. If dementia is likely, choose a home that is, so a second move is not needed later. Source: CQC register

Is there a nurse on site if health needs change?

No. Parkbourn is a residential care home without on-site nursing. District nurses and GPs visit, but someone who needs daily nursing may have to move to a nursing home. Source: CQC register

Can they try a short stay before deciding?

Yes. Parkbourn offers respite and short stays, which is a good way to see whether the home is the right fit. Source: CQC register

Will they support end of life care, so there is no move at the hardest time?

Ask the home. End of life care is not listed on the register. Ask the manager whether residents can remain in the home with hospice or district nurse support.

Can she bring her cat or dog?

Ask the home. The home has not told us its pet policy yet. Ask directly; some homes allow small pets in residents' rooms or welcome visiting dogs.

Can a couple stay together?

Ask the home. We do not know whether the home has rooms for couples. Ask about shared or adjoining rooms if this matters.

Will the council help pay, or is it self funded only?

Ask the home. The home has not told us which funding it accepts. Most homes take both council funded and self funded residents; ask about council rates and any top up. Use our funding calculator to check what you might pay.

Do they take younger adults as well as older people?

Yes. Parkbourn supports younger adults as well as older people. Source: CQC register

Can I visit before deciding, and are there visiting hours?

Ask the home. Every home should welcome a visit. Call to arrange one, ideally at a mealtime or during an activity, and ask about visiting hours for family.
