About Us
Cumberland Gate is a residential care home in Liverpool supporting adults with a learning disability, autistic adults, people living with mental health conditions, people with physical disabilities and people with a visual or hearing impairment. Most of the people who live here are younger adults.
A home for younger adults needs to be about building a life rather than managing a decline. People here have decades ahead of them, so we talk about work and college, money, cooking, travel, relationships and independence, and we expect people to take on more over time rather than less.
Support is agreed with the person and built around them. Some need help with personal care and health needs. Others mainly want somebody alongside them so that a demanding world becomes manageable, and support to do things themselves rather than have them done.
For autistic residents in particular, predictability does most of the work. Routines that hold, clear information, honest notice before anything changes and attention to sensory demands prevent far more distress than any reaction afterwards. Where somebody is struggling, we look first at what is being asked of them.
Sight and hearing loss get the same practical attention, beginning with how we communicate.
Respite stays are available. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Please contact us if you would like to visit Cumberland Gate.
