About Ascot House
We are Ascot House in Oldbury, in the borough of Sandwell, a residential care home supporting adults with learning disabilities, autistic adults and people living with a mental health condition. We offer permanent places and respite stays. A home for a small number of people allows support to be genuinely individual rather than a compromise between competing demands. Staff here know everybody properly, including the things that never appear in a care plan, such as which sounds are unbearable on a difficult day and which subject will always improve one. Where a learning disability and a mental health condition sit together, support that addresses only one of them will not hold up. So we plan around the person, and we take the time to find out what actually helps on a good day and on a hard one rather than working from the diagnosis. Predictability does a great deal of the rest. Saying what will happen and when, and then being right, is worth more than reassurance. Where a routine matters to somebody we protect it, and where the environment causes difficulty we change the environment. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good.
