About Us
Brook House Residential Care Home is in Didcot, and we support adults with learning disabilities, autistic adults, people living with mental health conditions and people with physical disabilities. We also take respite bookings.
We are a home rather than a placement. People here have their own rooms, their own keys where that is safe, and they are involved in the ordinary business of running a household, deciding meals, doing a shop, sorting the washing, choosing what goes on the walls. Independence grows out of doing things, not out of being told about them.
Support plans are written with the person, in language they can actually use, and reviewed properly rather than as a paperwork exercise. Where someone finds communication difficult we use whatever works, from pictures and objects of reference to signing, and we take the time to learn how a person shows us they are happy, bored or in pain.
Our staff are trained in positive behaviour support, in moving and handling and in mental health awareness, and we keep that training current rather than treating it as a box to tick.
Didcot and the surrounding area give people plenty to do, and we support people to use local shops, leisure centres, colleges and places of worship as part of everyday life.
Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Please get in touch if you would like to visit.
