About Us

Launton Grange Care Home is a residential care home in Bicester, supporting older people from across Oxfordshire, including people living with dementia and people with mental health needs.

Most people arrive here after a difficult stretch. A fall, a hospital stay, a bereavement, or a slow erosion of the ability to manage at home. The first weeks are the part that really matters, so we take them slowly. We learn how a person likes their day arranged before we start rearranging anything, and we accept that somebody may be mourning their own house while they settle into a room here.

Once settled, what we offer is deliberately unglamorous. Good food. Warm rooms. Personal care given without fuss. Medication handled properly. A household with enough rhythm to give the day shape, and no obligation to join in with anything. People keep their own habits wherever we can arrange it.

Dementia care is a large part of our work and we have learned to stop arguing. Correcting somebody about the year or the whereabouts of a late spouse achieves nothing; sitting with them usually achieves a great deal. For people with mental health needs we work steadily and with the professionals already involved.

The Care Quality Commission has not yet given us an overall rating. If you are looking at homes near Bicester, visit us at a busy time of day, which tells you far more than a quiet appointment ever will.

More about the care at Launton Grange Care Home

What each type of care involves, and the questions worth asking when you call or visit.

Older Person Care

Most people arrive here after a difficult stretch, this home says, naming a fall, a hospital stay, a bereavement or a slow erosion of the ability to manage at home. It treats the first weeks as the part that really matters, learning how a person likes their day arranged before rearranging anything, and accepting that somebody may be mourning their own house while settling into a room. Once settled the offer is deliberately unglamorous, good food, warm rooms, personal care without fuss and medication handled properly. Registered only on 1 October 2026, it has no inspection behind that. Ask how many staff are awake overnight and who records a resident's own routine.

Dementia

Twenty three of the 34 homes around Bicester hold a Good or Outstanding rating, and Launton Grange has none since registering in October 2026. Its own view on dementia is refreshingly blunt, saying it has learned to stop arguing, because correcting somebody about the year or the whereabouts of a late spouse achieves nothing while sitting with them achieves a great deal. The rest is familiar staff, a steady routine and a layout that feels calm and secure. In a 66 place home consistency of staffing is the hard part. Ask what dementia training staff receive, how distress and walking are handled, and how care changes as the condition advances.

Mental Health

Four categories appear on this home's registration, mental health among them, which is unusual in a residential home for older people. The home says it works steadily and with the professionals already involved rather than starting over. Ask who on the staff has mental health experience, what happens when somebody is in crisis, and how the home coordinates with community mental health services.

Residential Care

Launton Grange is registered for 66 people, larger than 26 of the 34 homes in this part of Oxfordshire where the average is 48 places. Residential care means help with everyday living rather than nursing, so personal care, medication, cooked meals and a household with some rhythm are provided but no registered nurse is on site. Anyone whose health needs regular clinical attention would be looking at a nursing home instead. South East weekly fees usually run from £1100 to £1450, while Oxfordshire council pays about £800 to £950. Ask what the fee covers, what is charged separately, and how any gap against the council rate would be met.
