About McMorrow House
McMorrow House is a small residential care home in Nottingham. We support adults with a learning disability, autistic adults and adults living with a mental health condition, most of them younger adults, and we offer respite stays as well as places to live. The Care Quality Commission rates us outstanding overall. We would rather that were the beginning of a conversation than the end of one, because an inspection sees a few days and a home is lived in every day of the year. What we think we get right is treating this as somewhere people live rather than somewhere people are placed. The people here have their own rooms, their own things and genuine say over the shape of a week. Support plans are agreed with the person and written so the person can read them. Staff are matched to people with some thought, not allocated by whoever is on shift. Days vary widely and are meant to. Work, college, volunteering, the gym, the city centre, family, or a deliberately quiet stretch at home. Where somebody needs a great deal of routine in order to feel settled, we keep that routine without resenting it. When a plan involves risk, we start from how it might be made to work rather than from a flat no. Come and visit, and spend most of your time talking to the people who live here rather than to us.
