About Coppice Lodge
Coppice Lodge is a residential care home in Nottingham, supporting older people from across the city and Nottinghamshire, including many people living with dementia. We are a small part of a large story in most people's lives. By the time someone moves in, there is usually a long history of coping, of family stepping in, and of a situation that gradually became unsustainable. Our job is to take the weight of the practical things so that what is left of the day can be spent on something better than managing. In practice that is good food, warm rooms, personal care given without fuss, medication handled properly, and a household with enough going on to give the day some rhythm. People keep their own habits where they can, because a care home that insists everyone gets up at the same time has stopped being a home. Dementia care is most of what we do and we have strong views about it. Correcting people rarely helps. Familiar faces, a calm atmosphere and knowing someone's history well enough to find the thread of a conversation help enormously. Families are our best source of that knowledge and we ask for it early. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. We take that as a floor rather than a ceiling. Come and see us, ideally at a busy time of day, and ask the people who live here what they think.

Can Mum or Dad stay here if their dementia gets worse?
Yes. Coppice Lodge is registered for dementia care, so someone whose needs increase can usually stay rather than move.
Is there a nurse on site if health needs change?
No. Coppice Lodge is a residential care home without on-site nursing. District nurses and GPs visit, but someone who needs daily nursing may have to move to a nursing home.
Can they try a short stay before deciding?
Ask the home. The home has not told us whether it offers short stays. Ask when you call; many homes can arrange a trial period.
Will they support end of life care, so there is no move at the hardest time?
Ask the home. End of life care is not listed on the register. Ask the manager whether residents can remain in the home with hospice or district nurse support.

Ask the home. The home has not told us its pet policy yet. Ask directly; some homes allow small pets in residents' rooms or welcome visiting dogs.
Can a couple stay together?

Will the council help pay, or is it self funded only?
Ask the home. The home has not told us which funding it accepts. Most homes take both council funded and self funded residents; ask about council rates and any top up.

No. Coppice Lodge is registered for older people. Younger adults are not listed.

More about the care at Coppice Lodge
Dementia Care at Coppice Lodge
Correcting somebody with dementia almost never helps; finding the thread of their conversation usually does. Familiar faces, a calm atmosphere and knowing enough of a person's history to reach them are what good care rests on, and families are the best source of that detail. Coppice Lodge is registered for dementia care, and the July 2022 inspection judged the service good overall. Ask how distress is met and what happens when someone is determined to leave. Ask who gathers life history and how it is kept up to date. Ask at what point advancing dementia would mean a move somewhere else.
Residential Care at Coppice Lodge
Residential means support with daily living; nursing means a qualified nurse on the premises, and the price difference follows that distinction. Coppice Lodge is registered for residential care, so meals, personal care, help with medication, laundry and the life of the house are included, while clinical treatment is not. Where someone has wounds, a feeding tube or health that keeps shifting, a nursing home is the safer category. District nurses and GPs commonly visit residential homes, so ask how that is organised. Ask as well what happens if needs increase after a move and whether a room is held during a hospital stay. Weigh the regional £850 to £1100 a week against a council rate of £680 to £820 when working out any shortfall.

Ask for night staffing in plain numbers and how long a call bell waits. East Midlands fees typically run £850 to £1100 a week, with Nottinghamshire paying about £680 to £820.
