About Us
Carntyne is a residential care home in Hexham, Northumberland. Those living here include older people, many living with dementia, people managing mental health conditions, people with physical disabilities and people living with sight or hearing loss. We support younger adults too, and respite stays are part of what we do.
A household this mixed means one routine will not suit everybody, so we work out individually what a good day looks like for each person. For some that is company and something going on, and for others it is being left largely alone, which we treat as an equally reasonable preference.
Where a resident communicates differently, whether through sight, hearing or anything else, we settle that properly at the start and everybody uses the same approach. It is the thing most often left half finished.
For residents with physical disabilities we plan around what somebody can still do themselves rather than what is fastest for us.
The Care Quality Commission rates us good overall. Relatives who visit often notice what we have stopped seeing, and we would rather they said so plainly than be polite about it.
