About Hambleton Grange

Hambleton Grange is a residential care home in Thirsk, North Yorkshire. We look after older people who need support with everyday life, including a good number of residents living with dementia. What people tell us they want is remarkably consistent, and it is seldom ambitious. To be woken at their own hour. To keep their own chair, their own belongings and their own habits. To eat food they recognise. To be asked rather than told. We build the way we work around those things, because getting them right every day is what separates a home from an institution. Each resident's care is planned with them and with the people closest to them, and we are deliberate about the line between help that is wanted and help that takes something away. We would rather check than assume. For residents with dementia we hold routines steady, keep the surroundings easy to make sense of, and treat distress as having a cause worth finding. Families very often know that cause first, which is one of the better reasons for keeping them closely involved in daily life here rather than at arm's length. Our last overall rating from the Care Quality Commission was good. If you are looking at homes for a relative, come and see us on an ordinary afternoon. You will learn more from that than from anything we could write.
