About Us
The Holt Retirement Home is in Scarborough, North Yorkshire, providing a settled home for older people who have reached the point where living alone has become difficult. Caring for people living with dementia is a large part of what we do.
We are deliberately straightforward about what we are. This is not a nursing home and not a hospital. It is a place to live, where the parts of the day that have become hard are taken care of and the rest is still yours. Staff are here through the night as well as the day to help with washing, dressing and medication. Meals are cooked on the premises. Laundry gets done. Doctors and district nurses come in when somebody needs them.
For most older people that turns out to be exactly the right level of support. It removes the worry and the effort without removing the independence, which is the balance people are usually looking for and rarely offered.
Dementia care rests on consistency and on knowing the person, so we keep the day in a familiar order and take time to learn about somebody's working life, family and habits.
Respite and short stays are available.
Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Do come and see us.
