About George Edward Smart Homes

We are George Edward Smart Homes in Scarborough, North Yorkshire. We provide residential care for older people, both as a permanent home and as a respite stay for those who need support for a shorter period. Residential care means helping with the parts of daily life that have become hard work and leaving the rest where it belongs. Washing and dressing, meals, medication, moving about safely, and the ordinary company that makes a day worth having. For health needs beyond our registration we work alongside district nurses and GPs rather than stretching to cover something we should not. Respite is a real part of what we do rather than an afterthought. Sometimes it follows a spell in hospital and somebody needs a few weeks of support before going home. Sometimes a family carer is worn out and needs a break without feeling guilty about it. Either way the person staying gets a proper assessment and the same care as anyone living here permanently. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is requires improvement. We would rather set that out plainly than have a family find it elsewhere. We know what the inspection identified, work is in hand on it, and we are glad to talk it through with anyone considering a place here.
