About Silver Birches
We are Silver Birches, a residential care home in Filey in North Yorkshire. We provide a home for older people who need support with daily living, and we also support younger adults. Respite stays are available for people who need care for a short spell or whose regular carer needs a break. Filey suits us. It is a small place, the sea is close, and people here have often lived in the area for most of their lives, which means the community carries on coming through the door. We encourage that. Visitors are welcome at times that suit them rather than times that suit us, and we would rather the house felt busy than orderly. Life here belongs to the people living it. When you get up, what you eat, what you do with your day, whether you want company or your own room and the radio. We are here to make things possible, not to fill a timetable. We take time at the start to learn how somebody has always done things, because keeping those habits going is most of what makes a place feel like home. We take the practical side seriously too: food worth eating, medication managed carefully, prompt attention when somebody is unwell, and honest conversations with families when circumstances change. At our most recent inspection the Care Quality Commission rated us good overall. We are glad of it, and we keep asking residents and relatives what we could be doing better.
