About Us
The Chestnuts is a residential care home in Grimsby. We provide care for older people, including people living with dementia, and we offer respite stays alongside permanent places.
We are a residential home rather than a large institution, and the day here belongs to the people living in it. Some like an early start, the paper and a bit of company; others prefer a slow morning and a quiet afternoon. Our part is to make either possible, and to help with washing, dressing, medication, meals and getting about in a way that supports independence rather than replacing it.
Dementia care is central to our work. We take time to learn each person's history, habits and the things that reassure them, because that knowledge is what lets staff respond well in a difficult moment rather than simply react. Familiar faces, a calm environment and a predictable rhythm do a great deal of the work, and families often tell us it is the ordinary details that matter most.
Respite stays are properly planned and given the same attention as any other admission, whether they are giving a family carer a real break or supporting somebody after a spell in hospital.
Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. We treat that as a foundation rather than a finish, and we keep looking honestly at where we could do better.
You are welcome to visit The Chestnuts and see the home as it ordinarily is.
