About Us

Old Norse Lodge is a residential care home in Grimsby. We support older people and younger adults, including people living with dementia and people with physical disabilities.

We plan around the person rather than the building. Before somebody moves in we ask how they have always run their day, what they want help with and what they would much rather do themselves, and we write it down so that it does not depend on who is on shift. Help with washing, dressing, mobility and medication is given discreetly and at the time that suits.

For people living with dementia we keep the day familiar and unhurried. We ask families to tell us about the life behind the person, the work they did and what calms them when they are anxious, and we use it in conversation rather than filing it away. Where mobility is difficult we pay attention to the practical side, from equipment that actually suits to getting about safely.

Meals are cooked on the premises and mealtimes are sociable and unrushed. Relatives are welcome whenever they want to come, and we would much rather hear a concern early than late.

Short respite stays are available, often to give a carer at home a rest or to help somebody regain confidence after hospital. Please come and see the house on an ordinary day.
