About Woodlands

Woodlands is a residential care home in Middlesbrough. We support older people and younger adults, including adults with learning disabilities, autistic adults, people managing mental health conditions, people with physical disabilities, people living with sight or hearing loss, and people working through difficulties with alcohol or drugs. Respite stays are available. At our most recent inspection the Care Quality Commission rated us outstanding overall. We are proud of it and careful with it, because a rating describes one particular week and everything that earned it has to carry on happening afterwards. What sits behind it is that we plan support one person at a time and mean it. The people living here have genuinely little in common in terms of what they need, and running one routine across all of them would suit nobody. So we spend our time on particulars: how somebody likes to be addressed, what they can do themselves and would rather we left alone, what makes a difficult day and what heads it off. Where our work touches addiction we go carefully and without judgement. Recovery rarely runs in a straight line, and being steady on the difficult weeks is most of what we are for. We also take complaints seriously. Most of what we have improved here started with somebody telling us plainly that something was not good enough.
