About Us
Shaws Wood Residential Care Home is in Strood, Medway, providing residential care for older people and younger adults who need support close at hand. We aim to run as a household rather than an institution, with the day shaped by the people living it.
Supporting residents living with dementia is a substantial part of our work. We approach it by learning who each person is, keeping routines familiar and the day unhurried, explaining changes before they happen, and looking for the cause when somebody is unsettled rather than treating it as behaviour to be contained.
Our team helps with personal care, medication, mobility and meals, and equally with conversation, company, fresh air and music for those who want them. Rooms are personalised and relatives are welcome whenever they can come. Respite stays are available for shorter periods.
Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is Requires Improvement. We would rather set that out ourselves than have you learn it elsewhere. We understood what was asked of us, we have been working steadily through it, and we are happy to go through the detail with anyone who asks.
Please come and see us at an ordinary hour and judge the place on what you find.
