About Dolphin Lane
Dolphin Lane is a residential care home in Wakefield supporting adults with a learning disability and autistic adults, including younger adults, alongside older people. We also offer respite stays for people who need somewhere for a shorter period. This is a house where people live their own lives rather than a setting where things are done to them. People choose how their rooms look, take part in shopping, cooking and running the place as much as they want to and are able to, and get out to what they genuinely enjoy. Where somebody wants a job, a course or a regular club, we build the support around making it happen rather than treating it as a nice extra. The work is won in the detail. How much noise there is in a room. Whether a change of staff or plan needs flagging several days ahead. Which way of communicating actually reaches a person, whether that is speech, symbols, writing or simply patience and time. We keep the staff team as steady as we can and train people to notice the early signs of distress and prevent it rather than manage the aftermath. Our most recent inspection by the Care Quality Commission rated us outstanding overall. We are proud of that and clear with ourselves that it describes work already done rather than a standing entitlement. Visitors and referrers are welcome.
