About Us

Longroyds and Pilling House is a residential care home in Huddersfield supporting older people, including many living with dementia. We support some younger residents and we welcome respite guests.

We run the home as a household rather than a facility. Mornings are flexible, meals are proper meals, and residents choose how they spend their days, with company when they want it and quiet when they do not. Staff learn residents' histories rather than just their needs, because knowing a person's life is what makes it possible to care for them well rather than merely competently.

Dementia care is a large part of what we do. We keep routines familiar, the building calm and the staffing as consistent as we can manage, and we follow the person rather than correcting them. When a resident is unsettled we look for the cause behind it, whether that is pain, noise, tiredness, hunger or a need that has not been understood. Relatives usually know what has always helped, and we would far rather ask them than guess.

For younger residents we make sure the day contains something that belongs to them rather than expecting everybody to live the same afternoon.

Respite guests receive exactly what permanent residents receive.

If you are looking at homes in this area, please arrange a visit. An ordinary weekday will tell you far more than anything we could write.
