About Ashworth Grange

Ashworth Grange is a residential care home in Dewsbury, supporting older people from across Kirklees, including many people living with dementia. Our ambition here is unfashionably plain. We want the ordinary days to be good ones. Food cooked in our own kitchen that people look forward to. Personal care given calmly and in private. Medication managed properly. Warm rooms that look like they belong to the person in them. Somebody awake at night. Enough going on in the house that there is a reason to come downstairs, and no pressure on anyone who would rather not. People keep their own habits wherever we can arrange it. A home that insists everybody rises at the same hour and bathes on a schedule has stopped being a home and become a timetable with beds in it. Dementia care is most of what we do and we have clear views about it. Correcting somebody about the year, or about where a long dead spouse has got to, helps nobody. Familiar staff, a calm and unhurried house, and knowing enough of a person's life to find the thread of a conversation help enormously. Relatives are the best source of that history and we ask for it early. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. We would rather keep improving than defend a grade. Come and see us at a busy time of day and ask the residents what they think.

Dementia Care at Ashworth Grange

A rating of good from an inspection in December 2023 sits on this address, though the current registration dates only from 11 May 2026 under the provider WT NB OpCo 1, so the judgement may belong to an earlier operator. Dementia is described as most of what the home does, and it sets out firm views: no correcting somebody about the year or about where a long dead spouse has got to, familiar staff, a calm and unhurried house, and knowing enough of a life to find the thread of a conversation. Relatives are asked early for that history. Put to the Dewsbury team how distress is handled on a bad afternoon, and what is done if somebody tries to leave. Ask how care changes as dementia advances.

Residential Care at Ashworth Grange

Weekly fees across Yorkshire and Humberside are indicatively £800 to £1050, while Kirklees council usually pays about £650 to £800, and the gap between those figures is the first thing to clarify. Residential registration means everyday living support without nursing, so meals, personal care, help with medication and company are covered, but anybody needing wound care or a qualified nurse on site at all hours would be looking at a nursing home instead. Ashworth Grange is registered for up to 64 people in Dewsbury. Ask what happens if health needs grow past what residential care covers, and whether a move would follow. Ask too who makes up the difference if the council rate falls short.

Older Person Care at Ashworth Grange

Somebody awake at night is one of the plain promises Ashworth Grange makes about itself, along with food cooked in its own kitchen and personal care given calmly and in private. Beyond that, daily life for an older person means medication managed properly, a warm room that looks like it belongs to the person in it, and enough going on downstairs to give a reason to come down. The home says residents keep their own habits wherever that can be arranged. Families should still ask how many staff are awake overnight and what training they have. Ask as well how a washing and rising routine is agreed, and what happens when preferences change.
