About SENSE - 89 Hastings Avenue
We are Sense at Hastings Avenue, a residential care home in Margate. We support adults with a learning disability or autism, people with physical disabilities and people whose sight or hearing is impaired, including people who are deafblind, and we offer respite stays alongside permanent places. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is outstanding. We are pleased with that and clear that it belongs to the staff who earned it. It is also not a finished job, so we keep asking the people who live here and their families what is working and what is not, and we act on what comes back. Communication sits at the centre of everything we do. Where somebody uses tactile signing, an object based system, symbols, a communication aid or their own repertoire of gestures, our job is to learn it properly, record it and make sure every member of staff works the same way. That takes time and consistent staffing, and it is the difference between somebody being supported and somebody simply being looked after. People here have their own rooms and their own belongings and a genuine say in how their week is spent, and where physical disabilities are involved we make sure the equipment and practical support are right. Please visit as often as you need before making any decision, and ask us whatever you would like to know.
