About Echo Square House
Echo Square House is a residential care home in Gravesend, Kent, for adults with a learning disability and autistic adults. We are a house rather than an institution, and the difference shows in ordinary ways. People have their own rooms and their own things, a real say in what gets cooked and what happens at the weekend, and they decide who comes to visit. Because we are small, staff genuinely know the people they support, and that knowledge is worth more than any amount of written assessment. Support is agreed with each person and built around them. Some people need help with personal care and health needs. Others mainly want somebody alongside them so that a demanding world becomes manageable, and support to do things for themselves rather than have them done. We expect people to take on more over time rather than settle into being looked after. For autistic residents especially, predictability does most of the work. Routines that hold, clear information, honest notice before anything changes and genuine choice prevent far more distress than any reaction after the event. Where somebody is having a hard time, we look first at what is being asked of them. Gravesend and the area around it are part of ordinary life here, not an outing. Respite stays are available. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Please contact us to arrange a visit.
