About Us

Easthill Home for Deaf People is in Ryde on the Isle of Wight, and communication sits at the centre of everything we do. We provide residential care for deaf adults, including older people, younger adults and people living with dementia, and we work in whatever way each person communicates rather than expecting them to fit in with us. That includes sign language, writing, gesture and plenty of patience.

We support residents with hearing and sight loss, people with a physical disability, adults with a learning disability, autistic adults and people with mental health needs. What unites the home is the understanding that being unable to communicate easily is isolating, and that a home where you are understood changes how the whole day feels.

Alongside personal care and help with daily life, we work hard on ordinary things being genuinely available here: conversation, company, choice about food, going out locally and keeping in touch with family and friends. Residents decide how much they want to join in and we respect a closed door.

For residents living with dementia we keep routines familiar and staff consistent, which matters even more when communication is already difficult.

We offer respite stays, which can be a real relief for families caring at home. If you would like to visit and see how we work, you are very welcome. Please contact us and we will arrange a time.
